Privacy Policy

FreeSoftwareX is a free software directory and business marketplace. We don't ask you to create an account just to browse, and we don't want your personal information — you can use most of this site without identifying yourself. This policy explains what little we do collect, and why.

We collect information in two ways:

• Account information: if you create an account to submit software, write a review, or use vendor tools, we store what you provide at registration — such as your name, email address and company details.
• Aggregate usage data: analytics on which pages are visited and which software people search for, so we know what to cover next — page views, approximate region, referring site, device type. This is not used to identify you personally.

We use the information above to operate and improve the directory, respond to account holders' requests, keep the platform secure, and decide which software categories to cover next. Except for the consented business‑enquiry sharing described in Section 9 below, we do not sell or rent your personal information.

This site displays advertising. Advertising partners, including Google and its partners, may set cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and in some cases to personalise them based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of personalisation by many other vendors at aboutads.info. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the directory will continue to work normally.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to help protect the information we hold from unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

Clicking a download button takes you to a third-party publisher's website. Once there, that site's own privacy policy governs your data — not ours. We have no visibility into, or control over, what a publisher collects. We'd encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you download software from.

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — if we become aware that we have, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to its processing. If you don't hold an account with us, we typically have nothing beyond aggregate traffic data to return — but you're welcome to contact us with any request.

When you submit a business enquiry — for example through a “Send Enquiry” or request‑a‑quote form, or an enquiry popup — you are asking us to connect you with providers who can meet your requirement. For this purpose, and only with your explicit consent given at the time you submit the form, we collect your name, phone number, email address and the details of your requirement, and we may share these details with up to five (5) relevant vendors or service providers so that they can contact you about your enquiry.

• Legal basis: your consent, under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). We record the exact consent text, its version, and the date, time and IP address at which you gave it, as proof of consent.
• Purpose limitation: we share enquiry contact details only for the purpose you submitted them for, and we require receiving vendors not to use them for unrelated marketing or to resell them.
• Your choice: if you do not wish to give this consent, simply do not submit the enquiry form — browsing the directory and downloading software never requires it.

Because we rely on your consent to process and share business‑enquiry data, you may withdraw that consent at any time, and you may ask us to confirm what personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights — withdrawal of consent, access, correction, erasure, or to nominate another person to act on your behalf — email support@freesoftwarex.com from the address you used, and we will action verified requests within the timelines required by the DPDP Act. Withdrawing consent stops any future sharing; it cannot recall an enquiry already delivered to a vendor, but on request we will instruct recipients to delete your data.

In accordance with the DPDP Act, 2023, if you have any grievance about how your personal data is collected, used, shared or protected, you may contact our Grievance Officer:

We acknowledge grievances promptly and aim to resolve them within the period prescribed under the DPDP Act. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any change will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
